The Business of Fashion

Asalaam aleikum loves, It's been a little over 6 months since the last blog post I made which was on my birthday. I took a break from blogging, not intentionally but I started paying so much attention to how I spent my time and what I invested my time in and blogging didn't really make the cut. My priorities became my business and I was
am still obsessed with it ,for lack of a better word. I made really personal goals in April that I am working towards everyday and a lot of these goals are connected to my business. I had a choice to keep my formal employment or quit and focus 100% on my business, I chose my business. Seeing that I left a steady income,I promised myself that I would push myself to make the monthly target I set for the business every month. Some days, I don't even know how we do it,it truly is God. Yes, we work hard and put out a collection every week but after doing your part, you let God take care of the rest and Alhamdulilah, I wouldn't have it any other way.
Now, that does not mean that we do not have problems or failures, we do, every other day.
For those of you who probably don't know what I do, I own a modesty-wear brand that makes made-to-measure clothing for muslim/non-muslim modest dressers: Moderne
I started unofficially in August 2016 but at the time I only did a market test collection just to see if I would pursue this or not, that collection did horribly. December 2016, I made another collection which was executed in a relatively better manner than the one before, shot better, better fabric etc and it did well. May 2017, I borrowed capital from my father and set up a workshop with 2 workers and started doing 1 collection probably a month. We didn't make any money for the first few months, anything we made we put back into the business. Currently, we are a team of 5. My sister does alot of the administrative aspects and I'm the creative director. We have 2 tailors and 1 quality control person. We use 2 delivery guys. One outside of town and the other within town.

1 and half years later of running a business, with employees and a very personalised business where you custom make clothes according to everyone's measurements is not a walk in the park but it's so worth it. I wouldn't have become the person I am without experiencing this part of my life and I look forward to many more years and getting much more done. I hope you'll learn from my experiences, I hope to do 2 posts a week, In Shaa Allah.
Leave a comment below on the topics you would like me to cover about business. Thanks for stopping by.

    1. Thank you for your comment. In my business, job specialization really helps because everyone does a specific part of the custom making of clothes process. So from the beginning we have the creative director (me) who sources quality fabric and then tailors, someone who does buttons, checks loose thread, delivery person. I hope that answers your question. Being thorough with your process will assure quality.
