Winning Woman:Najma Mohamed

Asalaam aleikum loves, I'm featuring another woman with the quadruple role this Wednesday. It just makes me so happy that women are not only surviving but thriving at life. Its humbling to interact with women who have accomplished a lot in their life and are not even done yet. MashaAllah. Meet Najma, mother, wife, career woman and a masters student (say MashaAllah). Btw, i got nominated for the bake awards under best fashion blog, please vote for me by going to this link http://vote.bakeawards.co.ke/, Category 7,option d. Thanks.

1.       Tell us a little about yourself, who is Najma?
My name is Najma Mohamed. I have a Bachelors Degree in Journalism and Media Studies and I’m currently pursuing MBA in the University of Nairobi
I am married with a three year old daughter.

2.       What is it that you do as a career?
I am a Corporate Communications Officer in the Department of Water and Natural Resources , County Government of Mombasa

3.       What’s the hardest and the best part about your job?
My best part about my job is the fact that it’s a very challenging and unpredictable in that It pushes me out of my comfort zone . Today I could be in the office doing reports tomorrow in Nairobi representing my Department in a conference in Nairobi. It has also opened very many opportunities for me and given me a lot of positive exposure.

Unpredictability could be both good and bad.
Good in that I get to learn and develop new skills every now and then. Bad because sometimes I am home late or travelling for training and summits. This affects my classes and my work - family balance.

4.       Do you have other hobbies or side-hustles, if yes, tell us more about that?
I enjoy travelling to new places, experiencing new cultures and meeting new people.
Yes I have a side hustle that is currently in its inception stage and should be out soon in Shaa Allah.

5.       In moments of self-doubt or adversity, how do you build yourself back up?
The Quran has always been my first go to place for serenity and reassurance that all will be well.
In adversity I like to look or think of my daughter, and she always gives me the strength I need to get back up.
I also get myself back up when I think of all the people who are always here supporting me and those that I know look up to me

6.       What does success mean to you?
Success to me is contentment. When you set goals, give your all to achieve them, that is success. And this doesn’t have to be financial, it could be those few kilos you’ve shed, that small business you’ve started or that new language you’ve learnt.

7.       What quote or saying or book do you live by or rather inspires you?
Book : The Monk who sold his ferrari.By Robin Sharma.
Quote : Trust yourself. Create the kind of life you will be happy to live with all your life. Make the most of yourself by fanning the tiny, inner sparks of possibility into the flames of achievement. – Foster Carers McClellan

8.       Which of your traits are you most proud of, why?
Trait I am most proud of is the positive outlook I have in everything I come across. Whatever happens I believe happens for a reason.  This helps me get through any kind of situation I encounter. At work and at home.

9.       What characteristic do you most admire in other women, career women or otherwise?
I admire women who support other women. Who build each other up and not take their fellow women as competition. It is said behind every successful man is a woman but behind every successful woman is a tribe of other women who have her back.

10.   What’s the best piece of advice you have ever received in your life and what advice would you give to girls who look up to you?
Best advice I have ever received is to always give your best in everything you do and pray.  Overthinking or stressing will never get anything done but deprive you of your present.

Advice I would give to young girls is do not be deceived by other people’s lives on social media. Most of it is a facade. Do not compare yourself with others. Just do you and be you. Hard-work, determination and consistency will always pay off. And most importantly, Pray.
